UK one of 'world's worst performing betting nations'

Global figures released by leading online fixed-odds trading platform BetOnMarkets.com indicate that the UK is one of the worst online financial betting nations in the world.

In a league-table of 100 countries compiled by the BetOnMarkets.com, the UK languishes fifth from the bottom when it comes to successful markets betting.

And despite having one of the world's most sophisticated financial markets, UK traders fall a long way behind their eastern European counterparts when it comes to predicting the rise and fall of the financial markets.

Mike Wright, director of BetOnMarkets.com, said: "UK traders are flagging behind in the world ranking. When you consider the current economic situation they may be forgiven for taking their eye off the ball - but it remains a fact that the UK is certainly missing out because with very little effort the rewards can be high when it comes to betting on the financial markets."

The results, taken from analysis of all worldwide trades on BetOnMarkets.com from October 2007 to March 2008, indicate that the top five performing companies were Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Ireland and Slovenia.

The bottom five performing countries were Singapore, Portugal, Australia, Russia and the UK.
